Miramos al cielo: credo y ciencia

Look at the sky: beliefs and science.
This project started in 2009,
due to the International Astronomy Year.

The timeline runs from 3000 BC to 2012 AC. It is divided across cultures whose studies, assumptions and observations of stars and outer space have influenced our conception of the universe. Some of these cultures are: Egyptian, Chaldean, Mayan, Greek, Chinese, Indian, Inca, Arabic. Starting from XV, the timeline is divided by centuries and each one is represented by the most influential character of the time: Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo for the 15th and 16th century; Descartes, Newton, Halley, and Kant for the 17th and 18th century; Fraunhofer and Bessel for the 19th century; Einstein, Shapley and Swan for the 20th century and finally the 21st century starring the era of internet and information.

The chart is also divided vertically by mythological, philosophical and scientific research, each of them with a different colour. The main studied subjects related to the exploration of the universe are listed for each of these categories.

By linking cultures and centuries with these subjects we can observe the evolution of beliefs and research related to the cosmos. BC, most cultures had a more philosophical and mythological belief while looking at stars and the universe. Then, since the beginning of the fifteenth century with the presence of technology and later with the information revolution of the twenty-first century, research and beliefs have made inroads towards a more scientific angle
